Sealing goods for securing shipping

The degree of resistance towards or protection against or from harm is known as security. This term can be applied to any and all valuable and vulnerable assets such the life of a person, a dwelling, nation, community or organization. According to the definition presented by the Institute of Security and Open Methodologies in their manual OSSTMM 3, security provides “a form of protection where a separation is created between the assets and the threat.” Generically, the separations mentioned here are called controls and sometimes, creates changes in the asset or threat.

The common concepts of security which are present in the different fields of security management are –

•    Countermeasure
•    Risk
•    Threat
•    Exploit
•    Assurance
•    Defence in depth
•    Vulnerability

Container seals or Seal-Locks are used to seal containers which are being transported as cargo from one place to another. This impactful security measure was invented by Jeffrey H Liroff in the year 1996 and was awarded a number of patents in the United States. Now days, the term is used to describe any device which acts as a cargo container locking device though in some parts of the world, container seals are mainly used in the freight industries.

The categorization of security is actually quite huge because nearly in all aspects of human life, some form of security is required in one way or the other. This is due to the fact that in almost every security systems around the world, the identification of the “weakest link in the chain” is critically important. The situation is quite unbalanced because a ‘defender’ needs to provide security to all points of attack while an attacker just needs to exploit that one point of weakness in the defence or security network.
